Travel to the Murchison Falls NP expecting to see the roaring rapids of the Murchison Falls, the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest NP teaming with abundance of wildlife. Go chimp trekking in Budongo Forest Reserve. You will return to Kampala after travelling to Bwindi for gorilla trekking and then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation and sightseeing. Return to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: PICK UP AND TRANSFER TO MURCHISON FALLS NP WITH DE-TOUR RHINO TRACKING

IN ZZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY.

Hopefully, your flight is scheduled for an early landing in Uganda. Your guide/driver will pick you up from Entebbe airport and you will embark on your journey to Murchison Falls NP. The highlights of this park include; the roaring rapids of the Murchison, the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest NP where you will have the chance of viewing lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo and elephants. Then surely you will be fascinated by the concentration of hippos and the Nile crocodiles here. For birders, Murchison Falls boosts 400 species of birds including the elusive shoebill stork, dwarf kingfisher, the white thigh hornbill and the Goliath heron among others.

 

En-route, make a de-tour to visit Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. You will have at least an hour to enjoy rhino tracking while here. Another stop will be in Masindi in order to enjoy your lunch. Continue to the park and check into your accommodation for the relaxation of the evening.

DAY 2: MURCHISON FALLS GAME DRIVE AND LAUNCH TRIP TO THE BASE OF THE FALLS.

Have your breakfast, depart for an early morning game drive across the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest national park where you will have an opportunity of viewing lions, giraffes, hartebeests, buffaloes and elephants. For any birder, this area is home to the black chested snake eagle to name a few. Return to your accommodation for lunch. After lunch, you will head out for the boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls NP where you will be able to catch sight of more animals including hippos and crocodiles and several water birds. Continue with a hike to the top of the falls. The hike may be a long one but the thrill on reaching the top is breathtaking. Miss only if you must and later return to your accommodation and have a relaxed evening.

DAY 3: GO CHIMP TRACKING IN BUDONGO FOREST INCLUDING SIGHTING BIRDS

 

Budongo is astonishingly bio-diverse with 24 mammal species, over 360 bird species, 289 butterfly species and 465 plants. Budongo is also known for its primate population which includes around 800 chimpanzees.

After breakfast you will be driven through the Ugandan countryside which alone is worth a trip as you go for chimpanzee trekking in Budongo Forest. Also look out for other primates like the black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, baboons and grey-cheeked mangabeys. With over 360 bird species, you will have an absolute bird sighting experience while here.

DAY 4: EXIT BUDONGO AND RETURN TO KAMPALA AND OVERNIGHT

Have a relaxed breakfast at the accommodation and then set off for the return journey to Kampala. On arrival, you will be dropped off at the booked accommodation where you will have relaxation plus the overnight stay (awaiting next day’s trip to Bwindi NP)

DAY 5: TRANSFER TO BWINDI FOR THE EPIC GORILLS TREKKING

Your guide will pick you up from the accommodation and then depart for Bwindi Impenetrable NP. Bwindi is a big habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda harboring over 400 of them more reason of to why it should be your next safari destination.

The drive takes you southwest Uganda, cross the equator and then to Mbarara for lunch and through the Savannah grasslands to Bwindi NP. The scenic drive through kigezi highlands, banana plantations and the sight of herds of long-horned cattle- endemic to this area to take you to the gorilla sanctuary of Bwindi.

You will arrive in Bwindi NP in the evening and will mainly do less but just check into your accommodation, relax as you prepare for the Bwindi gorilla trekking experience the following day.

DAY 6: GO GORILLA TREKKING AND LATER TRANSFER TO LAKE BUNYONYI FOR RELAXATION

After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular. The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to visitors. The time taken and the terrain vary with the movements of these giants. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence.

The thrill of spending time observing these primates is awesome, exciting and long savored. Return to your lodge, have lunch and thereafter checkout for transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is framed with lush, green-terraced hills, various shapes and sizes of islands scattered across the water.

DAY 7: TRANSFER FROM BUNYONYI TO ENTEBBE AIRPORT

Have a relaxed breakfast at your accommodation with spectacular view of Lake Bunyonyi little islands just right in front of you and thereafter embark on your journey to EBB. Expect en-route stopovers in Mbarara town for lunch and the Uganda equator line in Kayabwe for some memorable photos and buying some interesting art pieces. Proceed with the journey arriving late afternoon or evening for drop off at the airport.
